Now that we have processed the results of the elections, it’s time to get to work. In Colorado, we will have many new legislators in January and, importantly, a new Governor. For those of us working in or supporting charter schools, we are excited about Governor elect Polis’ ongoing support of the charter sector. He has served as an educational leader and worked with some of our most at-risk students. We applaud his experience and dedication to education, and we look forward to working with him to strengthen the education system in Colorado and to provide equity for all students in public education.

With the changes to the legislature and governor’s office, it’s important to make sure that we are reaching out to our legislators and sharing our experiences and opinions. But we can’t and shouldn’t just do this during the election process. We must continue to stay connected to our legislators by communicating with them, sharing your stories, getting involved in the process, and inviting them to visit your schools. [Check out a short guide to hosting school visits!]

We look forward to all the new legislators visiting our schools and learning more about the charter schools that CSI authorizes. Our schools are located all over the state, in rural, suburban, and urban communities, and each school has a unique mission. They are as small as 16 students and as large as 2,000 students. We will be working to have legislators visit our schools, meet our students, their families, and the staff, and learn how CSI charter schools are successfully meeting the needs of the students they serve.
