Student Biographical Data

The purpose of the Student Biographical Data (SBD) review is to allow districts the opportunity to verify the accuracy of the demographic data submitted for each student participating in the assessment. The review process takes place after the test window has closed and before all assessments have been scored and final results made available.

Please note that the following dates are subject to change.

Assessment SBD Window
Assessing Comprehension and Communication in English State-to-State for English Language Learners (ACCESS for ELLs) and ACCESS for ELLs Alternate March 15 - 28, 2018

Colorado Alternate (CoAlt): English Language Arts and Mathematics (Dynamic Learning Maps)
May 30 - June 6, 2018

Participation in these collections is optional, however; please note there are consequences for not participating, which are detailed below.

The dates above are static, and all schools who opt in must comply with the deadlines CSI implements during each of the SBD windows. If your school chooses to participate in the SBD but does not meet the deadlines for the data submissions (or is unavailable during the timeline specified), CSI will send your school a notice confirming your non-participation and your inability to appeal your framework rating as a consequence. Please note, CSI reserves the right to modify data in order to ensure that the file can be completed and submitted for those schools who fail to respond, as all errors must be cleared for all schools in order to submit and approve the file.

State and Federal accountability reporting (including school and district performance framework ratings, Title III AMAOs, and priority and focus school designations) all rely on accurate demographic and test score data. Therefore, your school’s decision to participate or not has profound consequences. Your school should be aware that performance framework requests for reconsideration or AMAO appeals will not be heard unless your school participates in the Student Biographical Data collections. Please note that next year’s accreditation ratings will be the same as this year’s rating due to the assessment transition. Schools’ rating for next year is based upon the SY 14-15 data but schools that participate in the SBD process may use the SY 15-16 assessment data to appeal their rating.

CSI must collect this data if available, since CSI must allow the opportunity for schools to review their SBD files; however, schools can opt out of participating in the data collection. To reiterate, the consequence for not participating is that the school would then lose the opportunity of appealing their framework rating for each of the areas. +
